How to use the hook generator
- 1
Paste your draft. The generator only needs the opening and the main idea, so a rough draft is fine.
- 2
Press Suggest hooks. You get up to five first lines, each labelled with its style.
- 3
Pick the one that fits your voice and the post, copy it, and adjust a word or two if needed.
- 4
Check it in the post preview tool to make sure the hook is visible before "see more".
Example output
What the generator returned for a sample post. Your results will vary with your text.
Input
We moved our support team to a four-day week for six months. Response times held steady, sick days went down, and two people who were about to leave decided to stay. Here is what we changed and what we would do differently.
Result
- Question: What happens to response times when support works four days a week?
- Contrarian: Cutting a day from the support week did not slow us down.
- Number: Six months, four days a week, zero drop in response times.
- Story: Two people on our support team were about to quit. Then we tried something.
- Bold claim: A shorter week kept our best support people.
Five hook styles and when to use them
Question: invites the reader to think of their own answer. Works well when the post genuinely answers it. Contrarian: challenges a common belief. Strong when you can back it up, weak when it is just provocation. Number: a concrete figure from your own experience signals substance. Story: drops the reader into a moment, often a tension or a mistake. Bold claim: a clear position stated plainly.
No style is best everywhere. A story suits a personal lesson; a number suits a result or a method; a question suits a topic your audience argues about. Generating all five side by side makes it easy to see which one fits.
What makes a hook honest
A hook earns the click by promising something the post delivers. The generator is instructed to avoid clickbait and promises the post does not keep, and to stay in the language and register of your text. Still read each suggestion with your post in mind: if the line claims more than the post shows, rewrite it. Readers remember being misled more than they remember a clever opening.
Tips for stronger openings
- Keep the hook to one line, ideally well under 140 characters, so it shows in full on a phone.
- Cut warm-up phrases such as "I wanted to share" or "Excited to announce".
- Use a specific detail (a number, a place, a moment) rather than a general statement.
- Follow the hook with a line break: white space makes it stand out in the feed.
- Test different styles over several posts and compare results with the engagement rate calculator.

What is a hook in a social media post?
The first line or two, the part visible before "see more". Its job is to make the right people want to read the rest.
Is the hook generator free?
Yes, with a few free uses per day and no account. A free ProPost account gives you more each day, and hook suggestions on every draft.
Why only a few uses per day?
Each suggestion is generated by AI, which has a real cost. A small daily allowance per visitor keeps it free for everyone. It resets every day at midnight UTC.
Will the hooks sound like me?
The generator follows the language and tone of the text you paste. Inside ProPost, hooks and posts are written from your own style profile, so they sound more like you.
Does it work for networks other than LinkedIn?
Yes. Strong first lines matter on every feed that folds posts, including Instagram, Facebook and Threads, and on short networks like X where the hook is most of the post.
Is my text stored?
Your text is used to generate the suggestions and is not saved to an account or published. Only an anonymous daily usage count is kept to apply the limit.
